Keep McGuinness Moving is proud to announce that nearly 6,000 people have signed a petition to stop the proposed McGuinness Boulevard Plan. Proposing to narrow McGuinness Boulevard to only two lanes would tighten McGuinness Blvd and destroy the most efficient and safest way to route commuters in Greenpoint, Brooklyn.
BROOKLYN, N.Y., July 6, 2023 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Keep McGuinness Moving, an organization created to counteract this dangerous proposal to reduce McGuinness Boulevard to just two lanes, is proud to announce that almost six thousand people have signed their petition to fight the proposed McGuinness Boulevard Plan.
Local businesses and residents of Greenpoint, Brooklyn, are deeply concerned over the Make McGuinness Safe proposal, which would reduce McGuinness Blvd to two lanes by removing one traffic lane from each side. These residents and businesses are working together to help stop the proposal from destroying the most efficient and safe way to route commuters through Greenpoint, Brooklyn.
A few of the damaging results of the McGuinness Boulevard Plan include:
- Diverting truck and car traffic to one-way residential streets flanking McGuinness Blvd, causing noise and safety concerns for pedestrians
- Increasing backed-up traffic congestion on McGuinness Boulevard.
- Make it more difficult for customers to visit local storefronts by reducing accessibility for everyone from delivery drivers to customers.
- Create delays for the NYPD, FDNY, and EMTs when responding to local emergencies. No hospitals are nearby, so their ability to travel fast is paramount to resident safety.
Keep McGuinness Moving demands that the NYC DOT's redesign of McGuinness Blvd. preserves the traffic lanes currently present and that the "Make McGuinness Safe" proposal is rejected.
